In many ways graphic design is like architecture...without the physical element. It is the practical application of art. Graphic design, unlike painting, DOES have to serve a purpose. It usually has to convey a message or advertise something, but it does so in a visually impactful way in hopes of making you read it, and hopefully leave a lasting impression.

I’ve been asked to create a lot of advertisements over the years having been involved in an art studio, or just being around creative people. I’ve made ads for plays, CD jackets, posters, invites, signage, stage design, designed logos and on.

I enjoy the rigour. Graphic design needs to serve a purpose, but somewhere in there I get to infuse some of my personality and vision into it. I enjoy that balancing of the practical and the beautiful.
